Fishing Our Region

Cooby Dam - Lake Cooby remains CLOSED for all boating and fishing activities due to Cylindrospermopsin levels exceeding the recreational water guidelines. Each week water is tested to ensure it meets safety standards for recreational activity (direct contact without water treatment). Cylindrospermopsin toxins are currently greater than 0.6 g/L and this needs to be under 0.5. Initially, Enterococci levels caused the closure of this dam, but the bacteria levels have reduced in recent weeks.

Cressbrook Dam - Lake Cressbrook remains CLOSED for all boating and fishing activities due to Cylindrospermopsin levels exceeding the recreational water guidelines. Each week water is tested to ensure it meets safety standards for recreational activity (direct contact without water treatment). Cylindrospermopsin toxins are currently at 0.7 g/L and this needs to be under 0.5. While the toxins have reduced in recent weeks, the warm weather in the last couple of days has caused further delay in opening. We're hopeful the toxin level will improve in the near future.

Leslie Dam - Very tough reports during the week at Leslie, with the warmer weather the bite window has been very small, late afternoon has been the pic of times as this is when the water cools down a little and fish get that little more active. Targeting the deeper ledges off the old creek bed has been successful, the fish have been tight to structure so a good fish finder can take the guess work out. ZX Blades and Soft vibes vertically jigged in these areas have worked well, as for the bait Anglers Salt water Yabbies have gotten the majority of the bites.

Somerset Dam - Very little change over the past week at our local Big Bass fishery, consistent catches stay the same, The Southern end of Pelican Point is holding massive amounts of fish, The Hot Bite Spectre and Slider Grubs have been the most successful bait, wind drifting and covering ground is key when tagreting schooled bass.. Another successful tool is trolling, there has been good results with this technique throughout the week, keeping your light tight to the bottom is key. The Smak and Little Rippler Range of hardbodies have been the go too for this technique.
Cania Dam - A little out of the way and a lake that doesn't receive a whole lot of pressure, this lake has it all great camping facilities and very good fishing as well. The majority of the fish are holding in deep water suspended out from the dam wall, casting Soft plastics and metal spoons were the go too the past week. Cania is renowned for its great saratoga fishing, Casting Spinnerbaits and Jackalls to the shallower edges is the best way to target these prehistoric fish.
Glen Lyon - A little bit of rain this past week is perfect for this lake as we come into winter, we are going to witness an incredible bite this year, Swimbaits and Topwater will realy come into its own, already we are seeing good fish caught throughout the lake, the Yellow Belly have also been on the bite, trolling or casting lipless crankbaits like the Jackall Tn60 has been a great method, while Vertically jigging blades like the Ecogear ZX 40 around the deeper timber has also been working wonders.
Moogerah Dam - Some very productive fishing happening at Moogerah at the present with same great fish caught, the dam is getting quite low so it does minimize the area to fish unfortunately. The deeper flats beofre the timber seems to be the go too area, the best method has been casting Tn60's and Chatterbaits like the Hot bite Spectre, targeting the standing timber on these flats has been very successful.

Lake Awoonga - Coming off the Full moon now and reports from last weekend with the moon, we had some exceptional fishing, well worth the 6 hour drive with some amazing fishing to be had, the majority of the fish have been caught in the main basin, anchoring up on the shallow weed points and waiting till bite time as these fish move through should see you land some quality fish. Follow the wind, look for major points with good quality weed is the best tip.
