Fishing Our Region
Cooby Dam - Its been a great week on Cooby! A nice inflow of rain of late that always gets the Yellow Belly on the move and feeding around the edges of the lake. Following the rain the trolling has picked up in the last few days as a few fish move shallower. The Cooby Cobba Mighty Mite and the ever faithful Jackall TN60 has been the standout for this technique. Other anglers still getting plenty of attention amongst the deeper water still, jigging blades like the Ecogear ZX40 & 43 as well as the Profishent Vixen Blade, soft vibes have also picked up some of the better quality of fish. For the bait anglers Saltwater Yabbies and Live Worms are very popular. Plenty of fisherman are having great success off the bank towards the pontoon and rock wall area.
Cressbrook - It's been another battle finding the better quality of Bass of late but plenty of Yellow Belly being on the bite. Targeting the deeper points or rock walls has been key and fishing hard on the bottom. Either fishing metal blades or soft vibes and for other anglers Saltwater Yabbies have been getting plenty of success. While the Bass have been very spread out, trolling has been the most effective. The deeper the better working lures like the Little Ripper 18+ or larger crankbaits like the Rapala DT20 or Imakatsu IK800 will be your best chance.
Somerset - Boat traffic can make all the difference with school holidays over, the fish are a little more on the move throughout the day. Again the Hot Bite Spectre and G1 & G2 Spoons being the best option Keeping those baits tight to the bottom is a must. The majority of fish are holding on Pelican Point the southern side being popular.
Leslie - Its been a very busy few weeks out on the lake ,but that hasn't stopped the Yellas from being on the bite, the ZX Blades, Profishent Vixen blade and variety of soft vibes have been catching some great fish. With the recent run in the back of the dam has fished well at the mouth of sandy creek and the opposite side. Find the structure and you'll find those active fish.
Bjelkie Peterson - Another very successful week, the bass have started to school up on the larger lake points with timbers, reaction style lures have worked well like Lipless Crankbaits and Spinnerbaits. Bjelke has been known for the smaller fish in the past but some good quality fish have been caught. Further up the lake anglers using saltwater Yabbies and live worms amongst the timer has been successful as well.
Lake Monduran - This week has seen a lot of smaller fish on the bite, finding weed around shallow bays and large points have been effective, Burning plastics in these areas like the Squidgy slick rig and the Shads Hollow Shads has triggered the bites. Rigging these baits with a Weedless Hook is a must while fishing this shallower water. The larger fish have been very spread out throughout the lake and are a little harder to tempt. Anglers trolling the main basin and the deeper tree lines have seen a little more interest this week and the temperature rises. The ver faithful Barra classic has been the lure of choice for this technique.
