Fishing Our Region

Cooby Dam - Our local lake has again fished quite well throughout the week with some better fishing conditions. The hotter weather has pushed the fish much deeper, the fish have reacted well to blades and soft vibes. A lot of anglers have been vertically fishing Soft plastics like the Gulp minnow grub this bait can be very effective whilst the water is clear. The southern end of the lake has fished best as these fish are schooling in deeper water. Trolling has also been effective towards the rock wall and the Bouy line. TN60’s and deeper diving hardbody’s have been the best option.

Cressbrook Dam - It’s been a very tough slog at Cressbrook again this week with the fish very spread out amongst the main basin, trolling has been the standout for covering water and finding those more active fish. Once the fish have been located metal blades like the old faithful evergreen Little max. Still better numbers of Yellow Belly have been on the bite, jigging ZX Blades has been successful.

Leslie Dam - The majority of anglers have had some very good sessions this week, locating the fish using your sounder is key as these fish have been schooled up in good numbers in a few particular spots. The mouth of sandy creek and southern end of the lake is holding the best numbers. Anglers fishing Blades and soft vibes have had the best success yet again while bait fisherman have also had some very good results saltwater yabbies have been dynamite.

Somerset - At this time of the year it can be very hit and miss, the fish are in good numbers on the southern end of pelican point from 20 too 30ft of water, keeping your lure tight to the bottom is key. The Hot Bite spectre has again been the standout with both spoons and blades getting bites as well. While these fish are in shallow water trolling Crankbaits or Deep diving hardbodies like the Smak Blitz Baga or Little Ripper lures has been another good option.

Dumaresq River - Cod season is Open! - Now is the time to hit the boarder rivers with cod season just starting, as these rivers have had a good break in fishing pressure and the recent floods. The cod are on the move and biting very well. Dawn and dusk there has been a very good topwater bite, the Jackall pompadour and the smaller 200 Barambah Bidjiewong getting some great fish. While during the day the old faithful Bassman Spinnerbaits doing the job amongst the structure.

Monduran - With some consistent weather there’s been much better numbers of fish being caught. The southern end of the lake has again produced big fish with Bird Bay and the large Points in the basin holding the better numbers. The Molix 120 and 140 has been the standout along with the Zerek Live Mullet. With fish starting to suspend amongst the deeper water trolling anglers have taken advantage. Working the tree lines further up the lake has been popular.
